Located on the busy strip of Scottsdale Road, The Montauk’s East Coast vibe is a welcome reprieve from the overcrowded and sometimes “clubby” feel of other nearby bars and restaurants. Housed in what used to be the sports bar Bungalow, the restaurant’s nautically inspired décor and “comfy chic” booths evoke desires of boat shoes and oceanic menu options. Though The Montauk doesn’t necessarily have beachy loafers for purchase, they do send out a variety of sea fare ranging from tuna tartare guacamole with cava oranges, to a grilled lobster wedge salad drizzled in a traditional bleu cheese dressing, and finally the memorable lobster roll—cold or warm choices are available, both with a decadent brown butter aioli and chive potato chip dust. Other New American dishes make an appearance for non-fish lovers, including a surprisingly complex cauliflower “fried rice” with Applewood smoked bacon and edamame, and the quintessential Southwestern taco plate, but with a ribeye and grilled onion twist. Guests must save a weekend day for The Montauk’s sizable brunch menu, when fruity drinks evocative of yachting excursions and the “classic” crepe—banana, Nutella and warm peanut butter mousse—are available to enjoy Saturday and Sunday mornings. themontaukaz.com.
